The Department of Critical Care Medicine, King George’s Medical University was established in the year 2016. This is the first government medical university/ college in India where an exclusive Department of Critical Care Medicine has been created.
The Department of Critical Care Medicine is running 2 ICUs in the Trauma Centre of King George’s Medical University, Lucknow. The total bed capacity is 36 beds , all equipped with mechanical ventilation. It’s a well-equipped, state of the art ICU with the facilities of advanced Hemodynamic Monitoring, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) , in-house hemodialysis , plasma Exchange, Bronchoscopy, Bed-Side Electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring, portable ultrasound machines, high flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) machines and Extra-corporeal membrane oxygen (ECMO) machine.
The ICUs of the Department of Critical Care Medicine are supervised by the faculty members. There are senior residents and junior residents who are involved in the training and learning the clinical management of critically ill patients. The ICU is well-staffed with staff nurse to bed ratio of 1:2 , Intensive Care Unit (ICU) technicians, physiotherapists, dialysis technicians, dieticians, and ancillary staff.
The department has been actively involved in the management of critically ill patients during the COVID pandemic. We have been conducting regular training sessions and workshops for doctors, nurses and paramedics of the University and outside as well. The department is committed to provide a world-class critical care facility with enhanced clinical and technological services at affordable cost to every section of society.
