About Department
Department of Trauma surgery in KGMU was founded in year 2017 with Prof. Sandeep Tiwari and Prof. Samir Misra. It was a proud privilege for King George's Medical University to give to the country the first separate department of trauma surgery for excellence in holistic care of trauma victims. Before that, trauma cases were admitted under the department of general surgery. But, as number of trauma cases increased, need of separate department for proper care of trauma victims was raised.
On 3rd January 2017, under the guidance of Prof.SandeepTiwari and Prof. Samir Misra, Department of Trauma surgery was founded.
With them, 4 more faculty members joined Department of Trauma surgery. Dr.VaibhavJaiswal, Dr. Anita Singh,Dr.Narendra Kumar and Dr. Yadvendra Dheer joined the department in 2017. With experienced faculty and senior residents dedicated in trauma care, the department takes lead in patient care, teaching, training programs and research in the field of trauma care.
The “MS (Traumatology and Surgery)†PG degree course started in the department in the year 2022 with05 junior resident/year. It is 1st Government institute in India to start such course.
The PDCC in trauma surgery program started in the department in the year 2019 with intake of 5 seats per year.
The department currently functions inShatabdi Hospital Phase - 2 (8thfloor). The total bed strength of the department is 46beds, including 10 HDU beds. The trauma ventilator unit and critical care department augment the ICU care beds of the department of trauma surgery. The department has 2 major operation theatres with state of the art equipment and facilities, which provide the best operative intervention for the patients of trauma. The department has a mini Auditorium with Audio Visual Facility, Departmental Library andwell-equipped staff strength to run the department.
Department conducted Annual conference of Indian Society of trauma and acute care (ISTAC) in 2019 and founded UP chapter of ISTAC in this conference.
Apart from patient care services and education, department has been actively involved in conducting Social outreach programmes, with multiple camps in rural areas, trauma prevention rallies, trauma prevention and disaster preparation workshops and teaching and training of police personals, social workers, medical students, DGRF team and nurses.
We have regularly organized Awareness campaigns namely World Trauma day, road safety programsetc, with active participation of hundreds of school children.
