On 9th August 2016, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Prof Ravi Kant inaugurated newly created "Department of Sports medicine" in presence of Prof. Mastan Singh, Dean Medical; Prof. S. C. Tiwari Chief Medical Superintendent; Prof. J. V. Singh, Dean Nursing; Prof.Vineet Sharma, Head Department of Orthopaedics, Prof. Anupam Wakhlu Medical Superintendent, RALC campus; Dr. A. K. Gupta Head, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Faculty members, resident and staff of Department of Orthopaedics, King George's Medical University, Lucknow.
Prof. Ashish Kumar, Head of newly created Department of Sports Medicine informed that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had selected the Department Of Sports Medicine, KGMU amongst five centers all over India to provide a grant of 12.5 Crores in five years for its development. He further informed that KGMU a regular OPD will be conducted "On every Monday and Thursday at RALC building (near Amrit Pharmacy) from 9 am-2 pm". This department is developing 30 exclusive beds for Sportsperson with various bone and joint problems. This department will provide a state of art facilities for assessment and treatment of all sportspersons with ligament injuries, bone, and joint disorders, recurrent dislocations, traumatic injuries especially requiring Arthroscopic Surgery. This department is also equipped with state of art modular operation theatre, plaster room, and Physiotherapy lab, etc. Besides this, we have Kinesiology lab, Human performance lab with facilities like spirometry, ergometry, anthropometry, foot pressure analysis, etc.
Sports psychology and Gate analysis are supported in collaboration with other departments of KGMU.
Prof. MLB Bhatt, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the exclusive OPD of Department of Sports Medicine on 15th June 2018 in presence of Prof. G.K Singh (HOD, Dept. Of Orthopedics), Prof.Vineet Sharma, Dr. A K Gupta (HOD, DPMR) and various dignitaries.
